Tours

SHBELC’s enrolment process commences with a warm and welcoming visit to the Centre. Families are given a guided tour of the Program Areas, Outdoor Play Space and all the service has to offer.

During the tour parents and/or guardians are given opportunity to ask questions and learn about the history, specialist programs, the curriculum and how SHBELC will cater for the needs of each individual child and family.

Tours are held every Thursday throughout the Victorian School Terms.

Waitlist and Enrolment

Having completed a tour and feeling excited about the prospect of your child attending SHBELC you will have the opportunity to speak with a member of our team about your child’s enrolment needs. You can register on the Waitlist, this incurs a $25 processing fee or discuss immediate enrolment depending on availability.

Enrolment documentation is available prior to orientation.

Orientation

At SHBELC we believe a smooth and steady introduction into a new Learning Environment assists each child to settle quickly and become confident as they embark on their transition. We strongly recommend each child attends two orientation sessions prior to enrolment. The first orientation session (one hour) is for parents or guardians and child to familiarise themselves with the Program Area. Parents or guardians remain with the child and gently encourage them to participate in the program or explore the area whilst feeling safe and secure in their presence. This is also a great opportunity to get to know the Educators and routines within the Program Area. During the second orientation session (one and half hours), the first half an hour of this session we suggest parents or guardians remain with the child in the Program Area to assist in the transition process. Once the child is comfortable you will be directed to rest and relax in our Gathering space for an hour whilst your child continues to explore and get to know their Educators and peers. Following two successful orientation sessions Educators will then speak with you about the best way to transition your child to the service. This process can often include starting with half days then progressing to longer days once the child is comfortable and confident within the program area. Each child’s orientation and transition is unique and individual therefore, we will work with you to ensure your child has a positive start to their time at SHBELC.
