Programs

Nursery

In the Nursery the children develop trusting relationships with key educators whilst engaging in a creative and nurturing educational space.  The Nursery program accommodates children aged 6 months to 14 months of age and fosters a caring environment where through play children explore and learn to understand the world around them. The Educators work collaboratively with families to cater for the individual needs and routines of each child.

Toddlers

Within the Toddlers program area children aged 15 months – 24 months engage in a play-based learning program that is tailored to their strengths, interests and needs. To reflect their developmental needs and abilities children are provided with multiple opportunities participate in small group experiences and one on one interactions with their Educators. The Educators support children to further strengthen their independence through encouraging them to self-select learning experiences, assist with meal service and self-care routines.

Toddlers Plus

The Toddlers Plus program area is a newly developed learning environment. This space has been designed to cater for children from 24 months to 3 years of age. The Toddlers Plus Educators foster and scaffold children to actively explore a wide range of learning experiences in their year before Kindergarten. Within the learning environment the children feel safe and secure to experiment and make new discoveries as they develop a deeper understanding of themselves and of the world in which they live.

3 Year Old Kindergarten

The 3YO Kindergarten program is tailored for children who turn 3 years of age by April 30. The 3YO Kindergarten program includes 15 hours of funding by the Government to ensure the provision of Bachelor Qualified Kindergarten Teachers at Surrey Hills Baptist Early Learning Centre, five days per week from 8.30am – 5.15pm. The 3YO Kindergarten program encourages children to communicate their thoughts, ideas and feelings within a secure and supportive environment. The children are encouraged and supported to strengthen their social and emotional wellbeing, self-help skills whilst building their self-confidence. The play-based program fosters a sense of creativity, wonder and a passion for learning.

4 Year Old Kindergarten

Surrey Hills Baptist Early Learning Centre provides a Government funded 4YO Kindergarten Program five days per week from 8.30am – 5.15pm. The Kindergarten program is implemented by Bachelor Qualified Kindergarten Teachers. The program is co-constructed with the children, families and educators as this provides children with rich, meaningful and engaging learning experiences in both the indoor and outdoor learning environments. The children often work together on inquiry-based projects to further deepen their knowledge and understanding of the world around them. The program incorporates a wide variety of school readiness skills and strategies.

Specialist Art Program

The Specialist Art Program is a vibrant and engaging art journey that fosters holistic development through creative explorations. Children achieve remarkable learning and developmental outcomes as the program focuses on honing various skills, including cognitive abilities, hand-eye coordination, and spatial awareness. This fun-filled journey encompasses innovative experiences, such as The Elements of Art: Line, Form, Shape, Space and Texture, Colour theory, Weaving, and experimenting with Sensory activities like hands-on adventures with foam slime, snow, to provide a multi-dimensional learning experience.  Furthermore, emphasis is placed on collaboration and teamwork, creating a space for socialisation and building connections among the young artists. Music and dancing are also seamlessly integrated, enhancing rhythm and spatial awareness. The program celebrates self-expression and discovery through various Open-Ended and Process Art activities, including Collage making, Colour mixing, and Painting with a variety of tools. Through this program, children not only learn artistic techniques and processes but also develop a lifelong appreciation for the arts, which in turn provides children with a future filled with imagination and creativity.

Physical Education

Surrey Hills Baptist Early Learning Centre prioritises Physical Education and Wellbeing. In particular engaging children Fundamental Motor Skills such as catching, kicking, running, jumping and balancing. The Centre has newly rennovated and refurbished natural outdoor areas. These large spacious areas have been designed to accommodate the physical education and inclusion of children aged 6months to 5 years of age. Our multi-functional Gathering Space is often utilised for PE activities as well as music, movement and drama learning experiences.

SHBELC is thrilled to announce that in February 2023 our Centre was Assessed and Rated by the Department of Education as part of the National Quality Framework and we received the rating of EXCEEDING in all 7 National Quality Standards (NQS).

The NQS sets the National benchmark for the quality of Early Childhood Education and Care across Australia. An overall rating of EXCEEDING the NQS is awarded to Early Childhood services that go above and beyond the NQS in a minimum of 4 of the 7 quality areas. SHBELC proudly achieved a rating of EXCEEDING in all 7 quality areas.
